how to make kava

To make kava, you will need the following ingredients and equipment:

Ingredients
Kava root powder or ground kava (from Mount Kava!)
Water

Equipment
Large bowl or basin
Cheesecloth or strainer bag
Muslin cloth or fine-mesh strainer
Optional: Blender or kava strainer

Here's a basic method to make kava

1. Measure the desired amount of kava root powder. A common ratio is 1 part kava to 10 parts water, but you can adjust it according to your preference and the strength of the kava.

2. Place the kava root powder in a large bowl or basin.

3. Add water to the bowl. The amount of water depends on the quantity of kava you are using and the desired strength. As a general guideline, use about 1 cup of water for every tablespoon of kava root powder.

4. Use your hands or a spoon to mix the water and kava thoroughly. Stir or knead the mixture for several minutes, ensuring that the kava is well-distributed in the water. This process helps to extract the active compounds from the kava root.

5. Let the mixture sit for about 10-15 minutes to allow the kava to steep. During this time, the kavalactones will be released into the liquid.

6. Set up a separate bowl or pitcher to strain the kava liquid. Line it with a cheesecloth or strainer bag. Alternatively, you can use a muslin cloth or fine-mesh strainer.

7. Pour the kava mixture into the lined bowl or pitcher, allowing the liquid to pass through while straining out the solid particles. Squeeze and twist the cheesecloth or strainer bag to extract as much liquid as possible.

8. If desired, you can repeat the straining process to ensure a smoother and clearer kava beverage. Some people use a blender or a specialized kava strainer for a more thorough extraction.

9. Once strained, the resulting liquid is your kava beverage. Serve it immediately, preferably in small servings.

Remember to drink kava responsibly and follow any specific instructions provided with the kava product you are using. It's also advisable to consult reliable sources or experts for detailed instructions and recommendations based on the specific type of kava you have.
